Delia Martin was born on November 11th 1925.

She joins a very distinguished group. According to the 2022 census there are just 738 centenarians in Ireland with only 8 in Monaghan. Delia was quick to point out that two of them were her ex-classmates from Ballynagearn National School, so there's something special in the water in Magheracloone.

Delia was born just three years after the foundation of the Irish state and thirteen years before the first Irish president was elected. She grew up in a time before televisions or mobile phones.

When Delia was asked the secret of longevity she said simply "surround yourself with family and friends and always make time for a cup of tea and a chat.

Delia celebrated her birthday on Sunday 9th November in the Shirley Arms in Carrickmacross followed by afternoon tea with her immediate family on her actual brithday at Cabra Castle. Many friends and family joined her for her celebrations and as well as many gifts and flowers, 940 euros was raised in donations to the Irish Heart Foundation.
